Scissors or thread snips

thimble, if you use one

soft pencil and/or fugitive marker

Hand sewing needles, spool of thread, and permanent black marker for marking and

attaching tyvek name labels

roll masking tape (partial roll is fine – any width)

Spray bottle, such as a plant mister

cone or ball of string (kite string works great) for pole wrapping shibori techniques. 

This string is frequently used for packaging and can often be found in paper supply stores.

Rubber bands

Shapes for clamping: jar lids, metal washers, wooden shapes in sets of 2 per shape (squares, rectangles, triangles), chop sticks, É

Any clamping device (c-clamps, bulldog clips, squeeze/spring clamps)

One 1-gallon plastic pail for rinse water

One - Two 2 and up to 5 gallon buckets (as a dye bucket)

Roll of paper towels and sponge for cleaning up around your table

Rubber gloves and a pair or two of disposable gloves

Smock/apron, work clothes and even old shoes

Fabric

2-3 yards of washed and dried fabric.  Choose a cellulose fiber such as: cotton, linen, hemp, rayon, tencel or any combination of these.  Bring silk along if youÕd like, but not as your only fabric.  Feel free to bring PFD fabric that is not dyed to work on in addition to the previously dyed fabric to dye over.

Cut one yard into four 9Ó strips.  Cut one of these strips into 9Ó squares and the other three strips in half (9Óx22Ó).

Notebook, sheet protectors or journal for keeping notes, sketches, recipes and samples of dyed techniques.

Pleaters: smocking, knife pleater (perfect pleater), and/or pretty pleater (for doll making)

one 2-3 foot length of 2Ó-4Ó diameter PVC plumbing pipe – smaller diameter is okay.  Do not bring any

piece longer than 3 feet.

Old towels – any size

1 box straight pins

Spool of Button & Carpet thread and sewing needles to fit

Waxed dental floss
