Alternative Marbling II:

Building a Personal Methodology and Vocabulary

Building on Alternative Marbling I: The Basics, this course explores controlling nuances of pattern through water preparation with carrageenan and methyl cellulose, and the rhythmic laying down of the cloth.  Each day includes a series of demonstrations and critiques to push personal exploration. Emphasis is placed on working towards a visual vocabulary using sophisticated layering, color combinations, and personal imagery.



LOGISTICS


Level: Student must have taken Alternative Marbling: The Basics


Facility needs:

Running water

Sink or two or three, with good drainage

Natural light

Space to hang 200-300 feet of clothes line (outside and out of the sun is just fine as long as it’s not raining)

4’x6’ table space per person

protect work space (floors and tables) if this is a concern


Length of class:

1 day to 2 weeks, and best as a 2 or more day class


Material Fee:

around $60 depending on length of class
